Click on the markers to see books that are currently hidden! Note that the markers do not show specific locations, only the city where a book can be found.
Clues and photos can be found on the Latest Activity page.
STEP 1: Choose a book! This could be a copy of Book Scavenger, The Unbreakable Code, The Alcatraz Escape, or any children’s book you’d like to share with others.
STEP 2: Register your book for a tracking number. Click here to get a tracking number!
STEP 3: Print out this gameplate and attach it to the book you are hiding. This will identify a hidden book as part of the Book Scavenger game. If someone happens across it, the gameplate will help them understand the book is free to take, and explain how they can participate so the game can continue. Remember to write the tracking number on the gameplate, and make note of it for yourself too!
STEP 4: Hide the book in a public place for another reader to discover. Tip: Put your book in a weatherproof container if it will be hidden somewhere exposed to the elements.
STEP 5: Fill out and submit a hide-a-book form so readers know to seek it out. If you are hiding a book in a city that isn’t already marked on the map, please allow 48 hours for it to be added.
Let us know a book has been found by filling out the Found Book form. We will mark the post Found so other scavengers know the book is no longer in play. Please allow up to 48 hours for the hidden book post to be updated.
Enjoy reading the book, then scout out a new hiding place! Make sure you come back and fill out the Hide-a-Book form above to leave the new location and clue for future scavengers! Let’s see how far these books can travel!
Garrison Griswold again. You may have noticed the game is a little—ahem—different than in the Book Scavenger series of books. There are no points or user names, for example. There has been a smidge of turbulence at Bayside Press, requiring me to scale back here . . . but don’t despair! This means you can award yourself points however you see fit! Give yourself 1 million points for finding a book, if you’d like! Or -500 if you want a challenge! The goal is to have fun with books and share a love of reading, in whatever way works best for you.
